A very young Wil Rigg entered the NASAUMC right out of high school. His desire to see the world outweighed his desire for higher educations, because "You get more out of going and doing than sitting and reading." He applied for, and was accepted to the NASAUMC Academy in Guantanamo. This Academy differed from the other, more traditional military Academies in that it provided a global, combat oriented campus focusing on tactics, weaponry and command. During his third year at GitMo, Rigg met a young Marine named Terry Alexander. Their torrid affair ended up in marriage and a child several months later. The resulting marriage was rocky, to say the least. Rigg ended up focusing more on his career, which helped him excel in the military, earning promotions like he was playing skee-ball (which he is also very good at). Five years of what he called "household combat training" led Rigg to divorce Terry, when he was offered a command position with the United Puppet Nations. At 27, he was the youngest commander in the Middle East. By 29, his skills had earned him a field promotion to Special Forces Commander, Middle East Operations, and it is widely accepted that without his strategic forethought, the MILF/AES conflict would have continued for another 8 to 10 years, instead of the two it did. At 31, he was offered General's stars, but turned them down. He said publicly that he had several more years of fight left in him before he sat down behind a desk, but he was well aware of the threat he posed to the current Marine high command structure, and didn't want to step on any toes. To many people's surprise, shortly after turning down what should have been the promotion of a lifetime, Rigg accepted the command of Ground Security at the United Puppet Nations headquarters in Lhassa, Tibet, a technical demotion from his previous position. It was here in Lhassa that he met Anne Whitney, a UPN diplomat from the EAU whom he married two years later. For 9 years, Rigg stayed in the heart of Puppet political and spiritual world. And in what could only been seen as another step down the promotion ladder, he accepted a position with the GSC in 2076, consulting on and helping to design the military structure for the new organization. It was during his time in San Francisco, working with the GSC that Rigg reconnected with his son, Billy almost accidentally. When Rigg was assigned as the Security/Tactical officer on the IPV Bunraku, the first of the GSC ships to be completed, Billy requested a transfer into the GSC following the procedures outlined by his father the previous year. Rigg served on the Bunraku for nearly two years before being transferred to the Intrepid, under Captain Finn, seemingly another demotion. However, this move gave him the chance to serve with his son, who was serving as the Intrepid's NavCom officer. During the Interpid's shakedown cruise, an unexplained explosion took out a good portion of the ship's galley, killing several crew members, including Billy. Those who have known Rigg for a long time have remarked that his once calm and peaceful demeanor has become internalized, and he is now bitter and angry. Many suspect it is because he lost the chance to spend time with the son he never got to know. He's immersed himself in the mission because of this, and is more likely to throw himself into harms way because of it. Rigg still hasn't gotten over Billy's death, and he's holding a subconscious grudge against Olly, who's sitting in his son's seat. |
