Independent Puppet Vessel Intrepid Bunraku Class Exploratory Vessel

Bunraku Class

There are two other Bunraku Class vessels in service and one more under construction.

  • IPV Bunraku1 (flagship)
  • IPV Endeavor
  • IPV Intrepid
  • IPV Venture (under construction)
  • IPV Gallant (slated)
  • IPV Dauntless (slated)

The next class of IPV is code named Contender, but it is widely assumed that there will be at least one more Bunraku Class vessel (Gallant) before the Contender Class is ready to begin construction (the Dauntless name will roll over to the next class of star ship). The Contender class is a more heavily armored, battle worthy vessel. There are far fewer humans working on the Contender project than there are on the Bunraku project.

However, several of the advances pioneered for the Contender project will be integrated into the Venture and other Bunraku Class vessels.

IPV Intrepid Layout

The ship consists of five decks, with Deck 1 at the top. Decks 2 through 4 are each 10' high, while Deck 1 is extended by the top dome to 15-18'.

Each deck is color-coded to aid in navigation.

Deck 1

Color:  #8d0000

Deck 1 layout

Deck 1 contains the Bridge and supporting spaces (Duty Officer's room, Briefing room, Break room).

The Bridge consists of two levels: the main floor and an upper level accessible via spiral stairs to the Captain's office.

Due to its placement at the top of the ship, Deck 1 consists of an oval 80' wide by 50' deep on the main floor.

Deck 2

Color:  #2d8000

Deck 2 layout

Deck 2's focus is primarily on rest and relaxation activities. It contains:

  • Galley
  • Captain's Mess
  • Kitchen
  • Chef's Quarters
  • Yeoman's Quarters
  • Library
  • Gym

In addition, secure access to the Computer Core and FELT Drive matrix output is present.

Deck 2 is still primarily oval, being 85' at its widest point and 60' from stem to stern.

Deck 3

Color:  #610396

Nickname:

Deck 3 layout

Deck 3 provides shuttle access to the ship and houses many key areas.

  • Shuttle Bay, with an external "lip" outside the bay doors/shielding for landing
  • Cargo Bay
  • Engineering, including the FELT matrix emitters
  • Forward and Rear Forward Weapons Arrays
  • Sensors, including the Communications Array and Astrometrics Arrays

These areas encompass the forward two-thirds of the deck. The third at the stern houses some of the living quarters for senior staff.

  • Chief Engineer's Quarters/Office
  • First Officer's Quarters/Office
  • Four addition Crew Quarters
  • Rear Observation Lounge

Deck 3 is 100' at its widest in the forward third, but narrows to 60' along the "body" of the ship. It is 210' from stem to stern.

Deck 4

Color:  #f8ac00

Nickname:

Deck 4 layout

The forward third of Deck 4 houses many important areas:

  • Portal Room
  • Science Lab
  • Sickbay complex, including Quarantine, Recovery, and Medical Supply rooms, and the Chief Medical Officer's office
  • Cargo and Supply complex, including the Quartermaster's Office, Ops Office, and a Secure Cargo area with a heavy duty lift to the Cargo Bay on Deck 3 above
  • Tactical complex, including the Tactical Office, Briefing Room, Armory, and Chief Tactical Officer's Quarters

Rounding out this area are the Captain's Quarters, VIP Quarters, and the Officer's Lounge.

The majority of the rest of the deck is made up of Crew Quarters, with a Crew Lounge.

Security, including the Brig, and EVA Prep and Storage are located at the stern, with the EVA airlock at the end.

Deck 4 is 95' wide at its widest, narrows to 60' along the "body" of the ship, and runs almost 220' in length.

Deck 5

Color:  #36a1cc

Nickname:

Deck 5 layout

Deck 5 houses most of the "machinery" of the ship.

  • Reactors, Reactor Fuel Tanks, and Reactor Control
  • Auxiliary Control and the Power System Relays
  • Environmental controls: Artificial Gravity Control, Atmospheric Control, and Humidity Control

In addition, there are a number of areas relevant to exploration and planetary survey:

  • Geology Lab and Geological Sample Storage
  • Two Secure Labs
  • Probe Construction and Launch Bay
  • Excursion Vehicle Bay and Excursion Ramp

Crew Services is tucked away near the starboard Lift.

Deck 5 is 63' wide at its widest, narrows to 40' along the "body" of the ship, and runs 205' in length.
